Consultation of Gynecologist
A preventive examination by a gynecologist is an important part of women’s health and helps to identify and prevent possible diseases in time. The main components of a preventive examination by a gynecologist include:
- History: The doctor communicates with a patient to collect medical history, reproductive and sexual history, as well as other factors that may affect women’s health.
- Physical exam: includes an external examination, palpation of the internal organs through the walls of the abdomen, as well as an internal examination using gynecological speculums and instruments.
- Pap test (cervical cytology): This test helps to detect pathological changes at the cellular level, including signs of precancerous conditions of the cervix. Screening for cervical cancer is recommended every three years with a liquid Pap test or annually with conventional cytology.
- Colposcopy: If abnormalities are detected after the Pap test, the doctor may perform a colposcopy – an examination of the cervix and vagina using a special instrument (microscope).
- Pelvic USG: Ultrasound helps to evaluate the uterus, ovaries and other pelvic organs, to identify tumors, cysts and other abnormalities.
- Mammography: This is a breast examination that helps to detect signs of breast cancer in women over a certain age. Routine mammography is recommended every two years starting at age 45.
- Vaginal exam: An examination of the vagina and cervix can help identify inflammation, infection, or other abnormalities.
- Reproductive Health Counseling: Your doctor can give advice on contraception, pregnancy planning, and other aspects of reproductive health.
- Screening for infections: Depending on the risks and indicators, the doctor may recommend testing for sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and others.
- Breast health consultation: The doctor can examine the breasts and teach the patient to self-check them.
It is important to note that the frequency and extent of preventive examinations may vary depending on age, risks and doctor’s recommendations.
